Final Grade Calculator

This calculator uses four inputs: your current grade, the percentage weight already completed, your target final grade, and the weight of the final exam. It uses those values to solve for the final exam score needed to bring the weighted course average to the target you choose.

In other words, it works backward from the desired outcome. That makes it useful when you are deciding how realistic a target may be or when you want to understand whether your course average already puts you close to the finish line. The main result is the estimated score you would need on the final exam to reach the target grade under the weights you entered. If the required score is above 100, that usually signals the target may not be achievable under a standard percentage system. If the required score is zero or below, your current standing may already be enough to reach the target.

This can reduce guesswork, but it is still just a model. Class policies, rounding, extra credit, dropped assignments, and grading adjustments can all affect what happens in the real course.

This calculator assumes the weights you enter match the course grading structure and that the course average behaves in a simple linear way. Many classes have extra rules, curve adjustments, different rounding conventions, or category-level calculations that are more complex.

Because of that, the result should be treated as an educational estimate rather than a guaranteed academic outcome. It does not provide academic advising, and it does not replace the instructor's syllabus or gradebook rules.
